sexy nerdy girls

I’ve been reading some articles on feminism and geek culture, and apparently there is this idea that the only way a girl can be accepted into a geeky community is if she dresses up in a sexy cosplay or something.

Do you guys agree with this? Cause I dunno if I do. I wore a sexy Minecraft costume to Fanime and I absolutely did not feel welcome at all, lol. I heard/saw three people point and give dirty looks or roll their eyes or whatever and those were only the ones I caught. And I’m not even surprised by those reactions, given the HUGE SHIT STORM that comes up everytime a dumby girl gamer post goes viral.

I feel like the best way for a girl to be accepted into the community is to be a slut-shaming, just-one-of-the-guys kind of girl. Beautiful (duh, of course) and sexy, but ONLY in a subtle way. No sexy costumes for this girl, she has self respect!!!!!111! Likes mostly guy things, has mostly guy friends, plays all the more masculine videogames, and talks mad shit about any geek girls that are too purposefully sexy. Geek girls exploiting their sexuality are just such an easy target for shit talking.

Maybe I only feel this way because I like wearing sexy costumes (grass is greener, etc). But I don’t see sexy geek cosplayers gaining anymore clout than other girls. Maybe people look at them more or take their pics more, but nobody takes them seriously and people still hate them |:

Anyway, this is all like. Pot calling the kettle back stuff (is that the right idiom?). Obviously nobody wins in this kind of situation.

edit: To be fair, I did have my picture taken a LOT, but I feel like most people were just excited about our giant pixel tools.
